
In 2022, founder Jorge Tsambourlis opened The Lift Dept with a clear mission: Bexley didn’t need another place to “just get sweaty.” It needed a place to get better.
After a decade in the industry, he watched people jump from gym to gym, chasing novelty and calories burned, only to hit the same plateau, stronger effort without stronger outcomes. Not because they lacked motivation, but because they lacked progression, coaching, and a system that actually develops strength, capability, and the skill to train for real results over time.
The Lift Dept was built to fix that gap — and to make strength training accessible to everyday people in a way that actually changes lives. After coaching thousands of sessions, we’ve seen firsthand how getting stronger transforms people beyond the physical. It improves resilience, vitality, and the way they move through their day-to-day lives.
Every session here is coach-led. Every block is structured around progression. And every member trains within a community that moves forward together, not just works out together.

The Lift Dept isn't just a collection of individuals training in the same room it's a community of professionals, parents, and locals who show up consistently, support each other, and celebrate progress together. This is what separates a fitness sanctuary from a crowded gym: the people you train with push you further than you’d push yourself. We’re known for our packed monthly social calendar everything from training events to food, adventures, and shared experiences around Sydney. A lot of our members are new to the area or outgrew old social circles, and the gym has become a place to build not just a stronger body, but real friendships. Watching strangers become mates bonded over training is one of our favourite parts of what we do.
